Tips for Remote Learners and Parents
Many remote learners are not fulfilling the requirements outlined in the back-to-school plan and are in danger of not receiving credit for their courses. Please remember these key points about remote learning:
Instructional Minutes Requirement
- Full Day PK/Kindergarten-5th Grade - 180 minutes
- 6th-12th Grade - 240 minutes
- Minutes are tracked through the Learning Management System
Attendance
- Attendance is measured by daily participation in learning activities, interaction with the teacher, and submission of completed assignments
- Attendance is tracked on a daily basis
Truancy
- State law dictates that if a student is absent 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period, the student's parents are subject to prosecution, and the student is subject to referral to truancy court.
STAAR Testing
- Students in STAAR tested grades/subjects will take the STAAR test
Parent/Guardian Role
- Participate in teacher conferences
- Inform the school of changes in address, email address or phone number
- Check for communications from the school
- Reviewing student's work
- Read/write/listen/practice skills/talk to your student
- Encourage students to be respectful
- Ensure work posted in Google Classroom/Class Dojo is completed
- Respond to teacher communication during prescribed times
If you are experiencing difficulties with remote learning and want to transition to on-campus instruction, please contact your child's principal.
